10oz for bag/pads and speed; 12oz for all-round training; 14oz for most adults’ training and sparring; 16oz for sparring and max protection. Always follow your gym’s rules.
Velcro is quick and convenient, great for classes and pad work. Lace-Up offers the most secure wrist lock and even pressure—ideal for heavy hitters and sparring (you’ll need a partner or a lace converter).
Many gyms require 14–16oz for sparring to protect partners. Check your coach/gym policy before sparring in lighter gloves.
Air-dry after each session, use deodorising inserts, wipe down the liner, and never machine wash. Keep them out of direct heat.
Pro tip: if you’re between sizes, choose the heavier glove for sparring and the lighter one for bag work.
Boxing Gloves Buyer’s Guide: Find the Right Pair for Your Training
Choosing the right boxing gloves is about matching your goals, your gym’s rules, and how you like your punches to feel. At Victory Boxing, we design glove profiles that balance protection, wrist support, and feedback—so bag sessions feel crisp and sparring stays safe.
Glove Weights Explained
In simple terms, 10–12oz suits bag and pad work, while 14–16oz is the norm for sparring. Heavier gloves spread impact and usually offer more padding. If you’re new, start with 14oz unless your coach suggests otherwise.
Closure Systems: Velcro vs Lace-Up
Velcro is quick on/off, ideal for classes and solo work. Lace-Up gives the most secure wrist alignment with even pressure around the forearm—perfect for heavy hitters and longer rounds. If you train solo, consider a lace converter for convenience.
Padding Profiles & Punch Feel
Our bag gloves use a denser foam for a crisp rebound, while our sparring profiles are tuned softer for partner safety. The goal is consistent wrist alignment and a thumb position that prevents strain.
Fit, Wraps & Hand Size
Hand wraps (4–4.5m) improve stability and fill space inside the glove. If you have larger hands or prefer thick gel wraps, consider sizing up. A glove should feel snug without hotspots or finger pinch.
Care & Longevity
Air-dry after training, use deodorising inserts, and avoid direct heat. Wipe liners occasionally with a mild solution. Well-cared-for gloves keep their shape longer and smell fresher.
Recommended Setups
Solo training: 12oz Velcro for bag/pads.
Mixed training: 14oz Velcro or Lace-Up.
